Seven weights. The letters never change shape.
Weight lives in the mortar: Light opens the joints between the bricks, Black closes them.
Italic · 12° slant · same brickwork
How it is built
5 × 7 pixels
Every letter is drawn on the same five-by-seven grid as the BRANDSWOT Consultancy wordmark.
Running-bond masonry
Each pixel is laid in three courses of brickwork, so the letters read as built, not drawn.
Mortar, not shape
Weight changes the joints, not the letters, so every weight sets in exactly the same space.

Font pairing for brands
Most brands need two fonts: a display face for headlines and a text face for reading. BRANDSWOT Modular is a display face, so pair it with a calm, open sans-serif for body copy.
Good free pairings include Inter, IBM Plex Sans and Source Sans 3. For Telugu, Hindi or Kannada text, add a matching Noto Sans script font.
- Use the display face for one job only: headlines, numbers or signage.
- Pick a text face with a large x-height for small screens.
- Limit yourself to two families and three or four weights.
- Test the pairing on a real page, not just a type specimen.
More questions
What is good font pairing for brands?
Good font pairing for brands uses two families with clear, different jobs. One face carries headlines and personality. The other is quiet and easy to read at small sizes. Avoid pairing two similar fonts, because they look like a mistake. Write the pairing into your brand book so everyone uses it the same way.
Which fonts pair well with BRANDSWOT Modular?
Simple, open sans-serifs work best, such as Inter, IBM Plex Sans or Source Sans 3. They balance the built, pixel-grid look of BRANDSWOT Modular without competing with it. Use Modular above 32 pixels and the text face below. For Indian languages, add a Noto Sans font for the script you need.
Questions people ask
Is BRANDSWOT Modular free for commercial use?
Yes. It is licensed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, so you can use it free in logos, products, apps, packaging, print, video and websites, personal or commercial.
Can I use it in my logo?
Yes. The licence allows logos and brand marks. You may not sell the font files on their own.
Does it support Indian languages?
Not yet. This version covers Latin-script languages (Western, Central and Eastern European) plus the Indian rupee sign ₹.
Who designed BRANDSWOT Modular?
Gowtham Sai, founder of BRANDSWOT Consultancy, designed it as the display type for the brand line "We don't just brand. We build."
What sizes does it work best at?
It is a display face, best above 32 pixels: headlines, signage, packaging, motion titles and big numbers. Use a regular text face for body copy.
Can I change the font and share my version?
Yes. The OFL lets you modify and redistribute it, as long as your version keeps the same licence and does not use the original name.
